The crash occurred around 8:23 a.m. Friday on North Main Street, between the bus, which was transporting students to Besty Ross Magnet School in New Haven, and the 2002 Chevy Blazer, said Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch.
The 60-year-old driver, who was traveling north, crossed the double yellow line and hit the southbound bus head-on, injuring the driver of the vehicle, he said.
All 10 children, ranging in age from 10 to 14-years-old, reportedly were not injured except for a slight cut to one student's finger, Lynch said. All were released to their parents.
The driver received significant injuries, but was alert on the scene, and was transported to Bridgeport Hospital.
"The driver of the Chevrolet admitted to the investigating officers to being distracted with his cell phone while driving," Lynch said.
The crash is under investigation and charges are pending, Lynch said.
